This has been my favourite song for years and I've always wished there was a music video or a live version online somewhere but there isn't as far as I can find.
The two films I used in the video are Ichi the Killer and City of God. I really do not recommend anyone watch Ichi the Killer, the only word I can use to describe that film is upsetting. Please read the parents guide on IMBD before watching it if you really want to because there were a lot of points I wanted to turn the film off it was upsetting me so much. It's a strange sign when the plotline about torture is the less upsetting of the two plotlines.
Despite this Ichi The Killer is a really interesting look at Hollywood's attitude towards violence and portraying women as disposable props. It's got a really cool style too which is why I wanted to use it in this music video. This is a breakup song ultimately, and Ichi the Killer is really a love story between Ichi and Kakihara, so I thought it appropriate to portray Kakihara quite moodily in this.
For years I've had the idea for using City of God for this music video, it's the first thing I think of when I think of Brazil and it's been one of my favourite films since the time I was 14. I watch it every year and I love showing it to people, I can barely believe that all the actors in the film had no formal acting training and were actually from the favelas.
This is what I consider my best music video so far and I doubt I'll be able to top it.
