More than 25% of the cars sold in China are electric. Whereas, in India, this number is 1%.
So why are Indians not buying electric cars? Despite the government’s various subsidies and programs?
For over 51% Indians, it’s the poor charging infrastructure in the country, that’s stopping them from buying an electric car.
And if we compare charging infra of India with China, we see the difference. India had around 15,493 charging points in 2023, whereas China had over 8 lakh operational charging points.
Another 27% people feel that high cost of ownership is the reason for them not buying electric cars.
Now, an electric car consists of multiple parts, but battery alone makes up around 40% of the car’s price.
And according to experts, reducing GST on batteries from 18% to 5% can help in reducing the overall-cost.
