Goddess Saraswati, the embodiment of knowledge, wisdom, and intellect, is revered as the deity of learning and creativity. According to legend, when Lord Vishnu's head was severed due to a curse from Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswati embarked on a journey through the 14 realms of the universe to retrieve his head. With her extraordinary wisdom and strength, she eliminated evil, sin, and impurities from each realm, ultimately facilitating Lord Vishnu's manifestation as Hayagriva, the horse-headed avatar, who then vanquished the demon king Hayagriva. Every year, Goddess Saraswati is worshiped with great fervor on the occasion of Basant Panchami.

माता सरस्वती विद्या, ज्ञान और विवेक की देवी कहलाती हैं। असुरराज हयग्रीव के अत्याचारों से सृष्टि की रक्षा हेतु श्री विष्णु ने एक लीला रची, उस लीला के अनुसार जब देवी लक्ष्मी के श्राप से श्री विष्णु का शीश विच्छेद हो जाता है तब उनके शीश को प्राप्त करने के लिए देवी सरस्वती 14 भुवनों की यात्रा करती हैं और अपनी बुद्धि और बल कौशल के द्वारा प्रत्येक भुवन में प्रसारित पाप, अधर्म और मलीनता को दूर करती हैं।

देवी सरस्वती के इस उद्यम से ही श्री विष्णु अपने श्री हयग्रीव अवतार में प्रकट होते हैं और असुरराज हयग्रीव का वध करते हैं।
प्रतिवर्ष बसंत पंचमी के दिन माता सरस्वती की पूजा बहुत धूमधाम से की जाती है।
