Alamo Drafthouse workers in New York City walked out on strike on Valentine's Day after the company laid off 70 of their coworkers.
The company claims they laid off "seasonal" employees — but workers say some of their fired colleagues had been employed for a year.
"I want Sony corporate to know we're not stupid... it reeks of restructuring."
Sony bought the beloved movie theater chain last June, just four years after the Supreme Court overturned the Paramount Consent Decrees which basically banned studios from owning theaters.
Alamo Drafthouse workers in NYC and across the country have won union drives over the past few years. However, they have yet to secure a first contract. They're demanding that Sony get back to the bargaining table and negotiate in good faith. And they're demanding their friends' jobs back.
