Disney, Reliance, and Viacom18 merger took place last November and ever since then, we have been awaiting the announcement of the new platform. Finally, Disney Star has teased the merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. The new entity could be called JioHotstar (perhaps not JioStar as previously expected) and its name has allegedly appeared on ad spots and the Disney+ Hotstar app. Let’s have a look.

Disney Star has shared a teaser clip on its X.com page that says, “A new era begins”. This is accompanied by a star emoji and a “What happens when two worlds of entertainment merge in the universe” caption.

Also, a post shows Disney+ Hotstar has added JioCinema Originals and Colors Rishtey hubs, which also indicates this merger.

So, once the Disney-Reliance joint venture officially announces the platform, we will be able to access Disney (including Disney Originals, Marvel, Star Wars, Nat Geo, Pixar), Warner Bros, HBO, Max Original, Colors and a lot more content under one banner. Even major cricket tournaments could be watched on this new platform.

JioHotstar or JioStar could hence take on the likes of Netflix and Prime Video in India. Now, it depends on the subscription prices too as ours is a very price-sensitive market.

A website named Jiostar.com has the likely list of channels available on JioHotstar. This includes more than 100 live TV channels and over 30,000 hours of content. There are Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) channels in this list.
