Dr. Greg Sarris is a renowned Native American author, scholar, teacher, as well as the elected Tribal Chairman of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria in Sonoma County California -- which operates one of the largest Indian Casinos in the U.S. on sovereign tribal lands. As a visionary social entrepreneur, he has created a new model for sustainable collaborations with Native American nations at the Federal, State, and local levels. Most recently, in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution, he has helped to design a K-12 curriculum to revolutionize the teaching of Indigenous history in schools nationwide. As a Santa Rosa Junior College graduate, he transferred to UCLA and eventually completed a PhD in Modern Though and Literature in 1988. Currently he is Professor of English, Native American Studies, and Creative Writing at Sonoma State University.
