Commissioning Ceremony for the Port Royal Pipeline Replacement Project

The Port Royal Potable Water Transmission Main Upgrade was a critical infrastructure project aimed at replacing the aged and fragile cast iron pipelines with 8.6 km of 300 mm (12”) High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes. This upgrade ensured a continuous and reliable potable water supply to Port Royal, the Palisadoes Strip, and the Port Royal Shipping Port, benefiting approximately 1,500–2,000 residents, cruise ship visitors (~3,000 passengers), and local businesses.

The Government of Jamaica (GOJ) through the National Water Commission (NWC) is now undertaking the replacement of the existing transmission main situated between the Norman Manley International Airport round-about and the NWC pumping station at the eastern entrance of Port Royal.

The works being commissioned represent the second and third segments of upgrade works being undertaken by the NWC, with the earlier segments (Phase 1) involving the installation of new mains Harbour View to the roundabout at the Norman Manley International Airport;
