Introduction to Dimming

Welcome to EE103A: Introduction to Dimming, a Lighting Controls Association Education Express course.

Dimming is the adjustment of light output over a specified range, with an important additional effect being a reduction in power input. As it supports visual needs and energy management, it is a popular control effect in commercial buildings. This course describes dimming, its benefits, popular strategies that use it, and how light sources behave while dimmed.

In this course, you will learn about: 1) the purpose of dimming, 2) stepped versus continuous dimming, 3) dimming strategies for visual needs and energy management, and 4) dimming for popular lamp types.

This course is registered and/or recognized by CALCTP, NLCAA, NCQLP (LC), NALMCO (CLCP), DLC, and the State of California. To gain education credit, after taking the course, click here to take a quiz (free but registration required, and you must at least scroll through the written course):
