At the 48th CARICOM Heads of Government meeting in Barbados in February, Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali was selected as the new Chairman of the CARICOM Sub-Committee on Cricket, replacing Dr. Keith Rowley of Trinidad and Tobago.
Reacting to this development, recently re-elected president of the Guyana Cricket Board Bissoondyal Singh said Dr. Ali is the best person for the job, given his passion for the sport and his deep interest in fostering its growth and development.
The Singh-led Guyana Cricket Board and the Barbados Cricket Association have previously raised several concerns with Cricket West Indies and CARICOM, and it is the hope that with Dr. Ali’s astute leadership, cricket knowledge, penchant for commitment and fair play, he will be able to strongly influence the upliftment and general improvement of the game in the region.
