A WAY TO CONCENTRATE IN SALAH - ALI HAMMUDA #Shorts

Prayer of Hatem Al Asam (died 237AH-852CE) with submissiveness

Allah Exalted says, { Successful indeed are the believers. (1) Those who offer their Salât (prayers) with all solemnity and full submissiveness (2)...} [Surat Al- Muminoon 23, 1-2]

Abu Yusuf asks Hatim al-Asam about the prayer may Allah have mercy on them both!

Qadhi Abu Yusuf, the greatest student of Imam Abu Hanifah may Allah have Mercy on them all, one day heard that one man who was called Hatim al-Asam was having a lecture in the mosque on asceticism-modesty, then told his students: Let’s go and ask him something, and if he answers we stay and listen from him.

Once he entered the mosque he asked: O young boy, tell me about the prayer? So he asked him not about some detail or about some delicate issue so as to show his sharp mind, but about the prayer. Hatim replied: Do you ask me about the ethics of prayer or the manner of prayer? Abu Yusuf was amazed and said to himself, we asked him a question and he made two out of it, and then said: tell me about the ethics of prayer.

Hatim said: The ethics of prayer is: to implement the command, to walk to prayer hoping for reward, to enter the prayer while having the intention in your heart, thinking all the while that this is my final prayer, to make takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar) by glorifying Allah, to read with meditation, to make rukoo (bowing down) with humility, to make sajdah (prostration) with submission, to stay in attahiyat (greetings) with sincerity and to give salaam with mercy.

Abu Yusuf said: now tell me about the manner of praying.

Hatim replied: To have the Kaaba between your eyebrows, Mizaan (The Scale) in front of your eyes, the bridge of Siraat under your feet, Jannah (Paradise) in your right, Jahannam (Hellfire) in your left, the Angel of Death behind you pursuing you, and after all this to fear if your Salat (Prayer) is accepted or not.

Qadhi Abu Yusuf said: how long have you been praying like this? Hatim said: twenty years!

May Allah have mercy on these great Imaams, and may He make us from those who walk in their path, and may Allah not make us from those who are careless in their prayer.

Some of the scholars have advised that one should imagine the Ka’bah before them when praying as it may assist in increasing Khushu’ in prayer.

Even the picturing of the Ka’bah in your mind should only be temporarily until you are able to focus, connect and be present with the Lord of the Ka’bah only.
