Mapping Memories of Australia: Maximizing the MAPublisher Toolkit - Marikka Williams, Avenza UC 2021

In this presentation I will share how I utilized Avenza MAPublisher functionality to preserve my memories from when I lived in Australia. The workflow that I developed enabled me to crop and project spatial data from a variety of sources upon import, plot point features from tabular data, enrich data by spatially joining features, render subsets of large datasets with selection queries, smooth geometries to improve the aesthetic of features, create a series of stylesheets to symbolize features based on definition queries, apply LabelPro rules to strategically automate the placement of labels, and apply a graticule to provide a reference framework that connects the map content to a timeline. The functionality of the Avenza MAPublisher toolkit saves time while also providing the opportunity to leverage the functionality of Adobe Illustrator to apply effects, format supplemental text and complete the map composition.
