The 2024 Audi Q5 mid-size SUV represents the German brand's return to the plug-in hybrid game in Australia, having been a pioneer with the A3 e-tron small hatchback all the way back in 2015. But this attempt at selling PHEVs will be different given it'll be led by the most popular body-style in the country.
Dubbed the 55 TFSI e quattro S line, the new Q5 PHEV has a long name but also long electric-only driving range, with its 14.4kWh battery delivering stints of up to 55km between charges. Moreover, the petrol-electric powertrain's combined outputs are a formidable 270kW of power and 500Nm of torque, so it's no slouch in a straight line, either.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Managing Editor Tim Nicholson puts the Q5 55 TFSI e quattro S line through its paces to find out if it's been worth waiting for. After all, PHEVs haven't exactly proven to be popular, while EV sales have exploded in 2023.
