La cantante colombiana Ela Taubert se ha convertido en la voz de aquellos jóvenes que no temen ser vulnerables para enfrentar su pasado y encontrar su futuro. Su canción “Crecer”, que trata sobre cuán nublado puede llegar a ser el mundo durante un episodio depresivo, se viralizó en las redes sociales y obtuvo el primer millón de reproducciones a cinco días de su estreno, una cifra impresionante para una cantante novel. Colombian singer-songwriter Ela Taubert has quickly become the voice for a changing Latin youth culture where vulnerability is seen as an asset –a healthy way to reflect upon the past and find a better future. Her song “Crecer” (Growing Up) offers up personal details from Ela herself about how cloudy life can get during a depressive episode. The song resonated so much that it became viral on social media and racked up a million streams within five days of the release, an impressive feat for a new artist. The success wasn’t a fluke, as old and new listeners welcomed Ela’s openness and created an emotional bond with the singer’s heartfelt lyrics. “Sometimes we run away from vulnerability thinking that it is the way to be strong,” Ela told the Chicago Tribune. “But I discovered that being vulnerable and accepting my humanity really makes me stronger.” Her message of remaining strong amidst the chaos, which Ela assures is temporary, has resonated with Latin stars Diego Torres and Alejandro Sanz, who have both invited her to duets on stage in front of their thousands of fans. With her sonic fusion of modern pop, ballads and classical music, the Abbey Road Institute graduate is poised to conquer hearts and stages in the coming year. Ela visited our Brooklyn studio to sing three songs for Vevo Studio: “¿Y Si Eras Tú?”, “¿Por qué no me fui antes?” and “Crecer”.
