YouTube Suggested Videos Algorithm: Learn YouTube's Secret Sauce

The goal of the YouTube Algorithm is to get your videos recommended to more people. But how does the algorithm do this? Today, YouTube sorts through billions of videos to recommend tailored content based upon your specific interests.

YouTube uses 4 signals to discover what you find satisfying.

1. Clicks.
Clicking on a video is a strong indication that you find that video satisfying.

2. Watch time
Your watch time, which videos you watched and for how long, provides personalized signals to YouTube about what you're most likely to watch.

3. Survey responses
YouTube uses surveys to determine if viewers are satisfied with the content that they're watching.
Only videos you rate highly with four or five stars are counted as valid watch time.

4. Sharing likes and dislikes
People are more likely to be satisfied with videos that they share or like. After all, you wouldn't click on something that you didn't want to watch. YouTube uses this information to try to predict the likelihood that you'll like and share future videos.
