Heavy Rainfall Brings Flash Flooding in Ithaca

An early season Nor’easter has been bringing moderate to heavy rainfall across Tompkins County and the rest of the tri-state area. ICTV News reporter Grant Johnson is in downtown Ithaca tonight, where rainfall has led to the flooding of streets, parking lots and homes. A flood warning remains in effect for Cayuga Lake, where moderate flooding is already occurring and major flooding is forecasted. The lake has surpassed its flood stage by 0.6 feet as of 10 P.M. Tuesday night, and the National Weather Service is expecting additional rises as the rain continues. Although rainfall is expected to become lighter overnight and taper off by mid-day today, another system bringing steady rainfall is expected to arrive Friday into the weekend. ICTV News will continue to monitor the forecast and bring you the latest updates.

UPDATE AS OF 9:30 A.M. Wednesday:
Cayuga Lake is now forecasted to be a foot over its flood stage by tomorrow morning, with moderate flooding forecasted. According to the National Weather Service, water will affect some properties such as parks along the lake shore in Ulysses, Lansing and Trumansburg. We are also seeing gusty winds of 20-30 miles per hour causing significant wave action on the lake. Winds should ease up by this evening.
