The U.S. launched significant airstrikes across Yemen on March 18 and 19, targeting Houthi positions in Saada province and the port city of Hodeidah. Saada, a long-time hideout for Iran-aligned Houthi leaders, was hit along with the Al-Safra district, known for weapons storage and military training sites. This marked the largest U.S. military operation in the Middle East since President Trump took office. The strikes were in response to over 100 Houthi attacks on global shipping, particularly after the Israel-Hamas conflict escalated in late 2023. These attacks disrupted commerce and prompted a costly U.S. campaign to intercept missiles. The airstrikes, which have killed at least 31 people, also targeted Sanaa, with reports of damage in the Al-Jarraf district. Despite U.S. retaliation, the Houthis have vowed to escalate attacks, including on Israel. Trump warned Iran of severe consequences if Houthi aggression continues.
