Swaddling can help babies sleep better by providing a sense of security and reducing the startle reflex that can wake them up. The gentle pressure mimics the feeling of being in the womb, helping newborns feel calm and settled. However, safety is key when swaddling. It’s important to ensure the swaddle isn’t too tight around the hips to avoid hip dysplasia and to always lay the baby on their back to reduce the risk of SIDS. Once a baby shows signs of rolling, swaddling should be stopped immediately, as it can become dangerous if they roll onto their stomach and can't move freely. Used correctly, swaddling can be a great tool for better sleep, but it’s crucial to transition out of it at the right time to keep your baby safe.
