@doublea4617

single moms by choice are some of the most equipped people out there. the amount of two parent homes where the child only gets real parenting from the mom is enormous. If a woman doesn't want to be married but would like to have kids... there is no fundamental difference. many fathers are physically there and emotionally absent which still means the mom is basically a single parent. I would take my chances as a single mom.

SJ! We back!!!! My one true Auntie!

@NenaToya

Most Dominicans don't know that they are black, most think they are direct spanish decent. I know, WEIRD, but that's colonization. & like most latin-america colorism is a huge issue.
Being latina and coming across situations like this, the other mom must have been jealous that her kids were lighter.

In my family, we are all shapes, colors, sizes, hair textures and we raise our kids to celebrate it all.
Experiencing racism/ colorism from extended family and other latinos, my direct family learned early on how stupid it is

@WhisperingBreezes

On the single mother topic, I think the take of it being irresponsible is misleading because it takes a village NOT a two parent household. Many two parent household are basically one parent and a meat sack like the OP friends husband. Such an interesting take, thanks for sharing!

@vickioverthink

On the single mom story. Unemployment is only a percentage of what you made and it definitely isn’t lasting 4 years. Usually only lasts 6 months. COVID it was extended and had more dollars added to it. Now the benefits are back to what they were pre COVID. He is bringing nothing to the relationship if he isn’t even taking care of their child.

@Alexacake19

My eyes were literally closed when Brandon said "you're like about to go to sleep, I see you!" 😂

@tarag5077

Black American culture is very much its own thing and can be defined. At some point, 99.9% of black people can hear or do something in direct response to another black experience. We have the same lived experience but grew up in different households. It’s like we all had the same childhood/same parents/same grandparents. We didn’t. It’s the Black American culture.

@_Mista_X

Bro, I hate parents that try to pass parent duties to their kids.

@sydshome

Watching this podcast grow and your relationships grow has been a real treat! The types of tough conversations you folks lean into is a big breath of fresh air, keep doing exactly what youre doing ❤

The comment about it being irresponsible about being a single parent… whoa. So many women do so much to make up for the men that didn’t stand it to that responsibility and raise amazing kids. Sometimes it even ends up a better situation to not be with one of the parents because it would have been a toxic environment. That take was crazy to me.

@syraaburto873

I find it sad when Sam said that being "Black American" is a "less defined" black-culture in comparison to being Dominican Black. Black American is a very defined and rich culture IMO.

@bridgette8826

I wish y’all had more pillows and throw blankets I’m not feeling very comforted rn without seeing comfort items wtf

@itsmeshell83

Step mom won’t be the only person that gets in trouble with CPS if they find out the dad isn’t feeding the 16 yr old. He will also get in trouble.

@stonerified

My bf thought SJ died because she hasn't been on in a while and they had her picture up 😂😂😂

I'm so EXCITED she's back, even if it's just for one.

We love you SJ

@mandalaymonsanto7117

In the most respectful way possible, Sam go get therapy because your common of how it’s selfish to be a single parent by choice was horrifically sexist. A woman can provide for their children as well as a man. Further more 9 times out of 10 the mother is more nurturing than the father. Intellectually, emotionally, intuitively, and maturity wise. That was a very sad and ignorant comment to make. Sure would it be nice if her kids had an old man to throw the baseball around with? Teach a little boy how to be a man? Teach a little girl how to defend herself? Yes, but they can do that with Mom. Especially OP perfectly laid out how she planned everything down and can provide for her kids. That was a slap across her face. OP’s friends husband proves this point. Until a society, we accept men to be caregivers and be able to at least have emotions. It is not better to have two parents. Especially if one is emotionally stunted it is so detrimental to kids like SJ said.

@KatlynnGoldman

On the separating finances story. The solution to the cultural setback of family: it should go both ways. Your family shouldn’t expect you to go into further financial ruin because they are irresponsible choices.

@kadinellysangare1352

Thank you very much for the chapters. I saw the clip of the useless man who don’t want to take care of his kids and I wanted to know your response guys and I was able to find the part easily. Thank you very much !

Re: Story 1
Also, isn't "Dominican" a nationality, not a race? So even if both parents were Caucasian, they still could be Dominican if they're from the DR. Like how you can be a white person who's Japanese if you grew up there, or an Asian British person.

@Jennyweny

Actively folding clothes while listening to Madi applauding herself 🎉

@brown14suga

I was going to respond to so much, but Sam doesn't make any sense right now. Single mother by choice is not irresponsible, especially women who are without partners and literally plan to have said child. Nobody is discounting fathers in that instance. Sometimes we let our feelings about our parents shape the way we think about people who aren't even in our same situation.
