In the last 40 years, appliance sales have gone from local independent dealers (and Sears..) to a relative handful of big box mass merchandisers. Just as a few suppliers have the power to keep selling prices higher, WalMart, Lowe's, and Home Depot, by themselves, have the buying power to push wholesale prices consistently lower.. Knocking $5 off the price of each washer is significant when buying in massive volume, and they'll demand $8 off next year. This pressure on manufacturers results, year over year, in cheaper and thinner plastic replacing metal and rubber, screws and plastic welds replacing nuts and bolts, and flimsy electronics replacing knobs,switches, and mechanical timers. The shiny, glitzy exteriors of many of these washers in this video are hiding embarassingly cheap and cheezy innards.

@flycrew

My washer is one of the things i dont want to save power, water or taxes on. I want it to wash my clothes, in water, the first time, all the time.

@robertwhite9898

I’d rather much prefer the older machines over the newer ones

@KayKeneetit

Got my Speed Queen set at Nebraska Furniture Mart. On sale, delivered, best brand! One year later no issues.

@vickiryan2053

Good luck getting help at Home depot! We waited 1 hour, even tried to tell other employees we needed help! We walked out and went to Lowes! Got a fridge, washer and dryer.

My parents just swapped out their old Samsung front loader for the Hotpoint top loader with agitator and they are pretty pleased with it.

@MagnusPaul1976

I have an LG with the impeller, but it is the TurboDrum model, with a punch action. Purchased 8 years ago, to replace my dearest Speed Queen set, I have had no problems to report. My Speed Queen set cost too much to repair and even more to replace. I could buy three to four LGs of my model for the Speed Queens.

@garretstanley5259

I have the first model LG washer shown but without the agitator and I must say.. it does the job well and it super quiet. I’d definitely purchase it again if I had to do it all over again. Washes very well and seems to use a tad more water than the other non-agitator brands.

@armeyf

Word of advice; we bought 3 Samsung appliances when we bought our home. They all been sheer nightmares since. NEVER buy a Samsung appliance …. Ever

@Markolo_Mantelope

We bought a whirlpool with the removable agitator a little over a year ago. It washed fine, but it was noisy(especially during spin cycle) and didn't have an end of cycle signal. After 4 service calls for various issues(luckily all covered under the 1 year warranty) we gave up after the 5th issue and replaced it with a speed queen. Obviously not available at the depot, but just a warning for the removable agitator models.

@cocktailsanddreams

I've watched a lot of your videos, very informative. Our 28-year-old Kenmore '90 series finally gave out. We t with local shop that sells used and S/D. Picked up a refurbished 2023 Maytag 4.7cuft dual agitator washer paired with a 2019 Maytag commercial line dryer for $550 total.

@smooth-flight45

I have the Samsung 5.3 had it longer than 2 years and it's been working just fine! Had the Speed Queen TC5 as well great solid machine just a bit loud and rough on your clothes. Do your research and go with what you can afford at the time.

@josephcarreoniii6434

The LG 500.00 model has very good reviews. The fact being that it does a great job cleaning and that there isnt alot of confusing computer technology that is costly to repair. This is the washer that I will buy. SQ is great, but with a ridiculous price tag. I know, you get what you pay for.

@lynsnyder9165

I'm still using my mid 80's Maytag set. It's been so ultra reliable. It's only ever needed new belts.

@missygilly9917

Thanks for your reviews! I’ll be going to HD soon for new set of washer/dryer since Sears is no longer an option. Appreciate tip about dual action agitator, my current washer is front loading & I love it. Love that it keeps water usage at min. But in past I had top loading, dual.

@ggreg2258

Interesting as was your rationale. Glad you ended up with 3 picks.

@TJDawgs72

I just got the GE 485 washer & the matching dryer you show at 7:16. I got them for about $550 each…hopefully they work out well.

@derekrew4947

I would put whirlpool over the ge. I replace out so many more transmissions on those vs whirlpool especially under the first year warranty. But I know this is my opinion. I'm just sharing my thoughts.

@ChristmasMorning1995

Ge top loaders are the way to go. My family got one in 2008 and we put it through hell. It was 3.5 cubic feet and we were washing king size comforters and everything in it. Multiple loads of clothes a day. It lasted 9 years until one day its agitator just came off. Replaced with another ge top load in 2017 4.3 cubic feet and it’s still going strong

@dianneunderwood8456

So what do I want in a washer?? Firstly, simplicity of operation (don't want computerized if at all possible!). Selectors for water levels, water temperature, wash cycles (regular, delicate, wrinkle -free, etc), and even one for extra rinses. I am used to an agitator operation so would likely prefer that to the impeller. (Although friends have an impeller model and love how it cleans & how dry their clothing is before putting in dryer). What I would like to see added to new machines is a removable filter that would catch the lint/hair. This was a feature on my first washing machine (1970) which was washer/spin dryer. The wash water was recirculated coming out over the top of the agitator where a removable "dish" with holes would collect the lint, etc for each load. Great item and you didn't need to put your clothes in a dryer to remove the lint you get from today's machines. Thank you for presenting this as my existing machine is showing its age and will need to be replaced in this coming year.
