Having a conversation while also using sleight of hands is the perfect misdirection because instead of paying attention to what theyre doing with the deck youre too busy thinking and possibly looking around while thinking so they can go ahead and arrange whatever card it is you had said and do the trick you suggest. Sleight of hands isn’t the only thing magicians use dont forget misdirection and distractions are the best way to trick someone.

His deck is a stack: A mathematical arrangement of the cards (with modulo operation) that allows him to systematically shuffle the deck and still keep track of each cards position with a simple formula. Then he just controls the target card to the top of the deck (a very basic and necessary step in card tricks). Finally he simply pushes the top card in a flashy way so it seems it popped out from a random position in the deck.

Such an (on paper) easy trick that he has mastered! My guess is he knows the order of the cards, and once the audience says the card, he quickly, smoothly shuffles the deck in his hands, with such little effort that you’d never suspect he was actually doing anything purposeful. Instead, he put that card right where he needed to. The flick was icing on the cake, such a neat trick!
